I love all Al Pacino movies but with Matthew and Renee it was excellent! I know nothing about sports but I was drawn in and understood the whole movie. I was never in the dark about the sports betting industry, even though I didn't know it existed.

PACINO PLAYS IT AGAIN--SAME
Added 12/1/2008
Take equal parts WALL STREET and THE RECRUIT,sprinkle with DEVIL'S ADVOCATE and you pretty much have this movie. Entertaining? Sure. Worth a DVD rental or the $3.99 buy price I got it for? Absolutely. But--Pacino has been playing the same evil daddy role for ten years prior to the release date of this movie. Devil's Advocate, Recruit, etc. It's more like a third rate stand up impersonator doing his Pacino bit. Armand Assante as the high roller living in Puerto Rico? See him in Gotti, see him in One Eyed Kings, and you know what--you've seen his act here too. Can't these guys show a little variation? Apparently, they are content to pick up their checks and phone it in. Ms. Russo, wife of the Pacino character, looks more like a badly made up transvestite, than a potential love interest. Wonder if she got the part because she was married to the guy who wrote the screenplay? (Or whoever the hell she was married to). The ending was dull, not downbeat, and the morale of the story is, um, er... gee... don't bet your picks, or don't go into the sports advisory business, or maybe, go into it but don't hang with a boss that does a third rate Pacino impersonation. Pick one--just don't bet on it.

INTERESTING FILM, BUT FLAWED! 3 1/2 STARS!
Added 8/24/2007
Pacino and McConaughey are very good in this tale about men who predict the outcome of sports events and the morons who believe someone can do this! If you don't like gambling & profanity don't watch this movie! The DVD transfer is very good.
