Plot: The new night watchman at New York's Museum of Natural History finds that the job comes with more responsibility than he ever dreamed in this wild fantasy comedy directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Mickey Rooney, and Dick Van Dyke. Larry Daley (Stiller) is a kind-hearted dreamer who always knew that he was destined for greatness, he just never quite knew how. None of his ideas or inventions has panned out, so with a heavy heart, he takes a regular job as a lowly graveyard-shift security guard at the Museum of Natural History in order to provide a more stable life for himself and his ten-year-old son. His first night on the job, however, he finds that guardianship of the museum is far from stable -- at nightfall, an Egyptian spell brings the artifacts and wax figures to life! With Attila the Hun charging to war through the hallways, the diorama miniatures embroiled in a deadly feud, and a two-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex nagging to play fetch, Larry has half a mind to turn tail and run. On top of cleaning up after two million years of historical chaos every night, he also has to make sure that not a single museum piece leaves the building -- from the bratty Capuchin monkey in the African exhibit, to the life-sized Neanderthal in the prehistoric display -- because if morning light falls on an escaped artifact, it will turn to dust. Larry turns to a wax replica of President Roosevelt (Williams) for a little advice on keeping things in tact, but Teddy seems to think that a man of Larry's greatness needs little help. Larry isn't sure if the former commander in chief is right; this is hardly what he signed up for, but he can't pass up the chance to care for a museum where history really does come to life. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Night at the Museum (Full Screen Edition)
Added 2/8/2010

A unemployed divorced Larry Daley is a complete loser. His son Nick is very disappointed with his father that is gong to be evicted, and Larry accepts the job of night watchman in the Museum of Natural History as the substituted for three old security guards that have just retired to raise some money and pay his bills. In his first nightshift, Larry realizes that everything at the museum comes to life at night. The Museum transforms in a complete chaos with the inexperienced Larry, and he learns that since an old Egyptian stone came to the Museum in 1950, the was statues comes to life until dawn. When Larry brings his son to spend a night with him, the three old guards break in the Museum to stole the magic stone. Larry organizes the historic characters to help him to arrest the criminals and save the museum. This movie is well paced, jumping almost directly into the action, with plenty of laughs. This is an entirely enjoyable family movie.

This movie is really funny! I love the creativity in how they had the little exhibits interact with each other. It reminded me of my childhood days and me playing with my toys. It has an adventurous theme the whole way through. The picture and sound quality on this blu-ray are great! Truly eye and ear candy! Great choice to purchase!!

Why did I wait so long?
Added 1/19/2010

I cannot believe it took me so long to watch this movie. This movie was hilarious. I just happened to see it on my sisters tv stand and borrowed it on a Sunday when I had nothing else to watch and laughed nonstop. There were so many good parts that I cannot begin saying which ones were the funniest.

My favorite characters were Jedediah and Dexter (the monkey). The look on his face when he realized he had toy keys was priceless!!! I only wished that my daughter had been in town to view this with me, we love to watch silly movies together. I ordered the 2nd installment so that I can laugh even more because if the previews are any indication, it is just as funny. I will eventually add this little gem to my DVD collection, but not right now since I have seen it courtesy of my big sister.
Great movie!!!
